Biography
Cristian Mercado is a Bolivian theatre and film actor. Born in La Paz on 29 December 1974, he has worked extensively in Bolivian theatre, including with the Teatro de los Andes group, and founded the La Oveja Negra theatre company in 2005. He has also directed for the stage and worked internationally in France, Chile and Mexico.
On screen, Mercado is known for his lead role as Falso Conejo in Sena/Quina, la inmortalidad del cangrejo (2005), Miguel in Undertow (also known as Contracorriente, 2009), and Inti (Guido Peredo Liegue) in Che: Part Two (2008). He has appeared in other films including Blackthorn (2011) and The 33 of San Jose (2010). He served as second assistant director on Los Andes no creen en Dios (2007).
Mercado won the Best Theatre Actor Eduardo Abaroa Plurinational Prize in Bolivia in 2014 and the Best Actor Award at the Rapa Nui Film Festival in Chile in 2011 for Undertow.
