Biography
Curt Courant, also credited as Curtis Courant, was a German-American cinematographer. He began his professional career in 1917 at a Berlin film production company and worked on more than 100 films during the silent and early sound eras.
Courant collaborated with Fritz Lang on Woman in the Moon (1929), Alfred Hitchcock on The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934), Jean Renoir on La Bête Humaine (1938) and Marcel Carné on Daybreak (1939). Of Jewish ancestry, he left Germany in 1933 following the Nazi rise to power and subsequently worked in Britain, France and the United States, including an uncredited role on Charlie Chaplin's Monsieur Verdoux (1947).
He died in Los Angeles on 20 April 1968.
