Biography
D.M. Marshman Jr. (Donald McGill Marshman Jr.) was an American screenwriter and journalist. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on 21 December 1922, he was educated at Andover and Yale, receiving a B.A. in 1945. He began his career at Life magazine as an editorial researcher and movie editor before becoming a film critic at Time magazine.
In 1948 he was recruited by Charles Brackett and Billy Wilder to collaborate on the screenplay for Sunset Boulevard (1950). The three shared the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Marshman received further screenwriting credits on Taxi (1953) and Second Chance (1953). He later worked in advertising after returning to the East Coast.
