Biography
D. Watkins, also credited as Dwight Watkins, is an American writer and author from Baltimore, Maryland. He wrote an episode of the HBO miniseries We Own This City (2022) and hosted its official companion podcast.
Watkins is a New York Times bestselling author whose books include The Beast Side (2015), The Cook Up (2016), Where Tomorrows Aren't Promised (2020, co-written with Carmelo Anthony) and Black Boy Smile (2022). He is an assistant professor at the University of Baltimore, where he earned an MFA in creative writing, and holds a Master of Education from Johns Hopkins University. His journalism has appeared in the New York Times, Salon (where he is editor-at-large), Esquire and other outlets.
