Biography

Daniel Lanois is a Canadian record producer, guitarist, vocalist and composer. Born on 19 September 1951 in Hull, Québec, he began his career in the 1970s operating a basement studio before establishing Grant Avenue Studio in Hamilton, Ontario.

He is best known as a producer of albums by U2 (including The Joshua Tree (1987) and Achtung Baby (1991)), Bob Dylan, Peter Gabriel, Neil Young and Emmylou Harris. Lanois has released several solo albums and composed the score for the 1996 film Sling Blade. He has also contributed music to other films and video games, including vocal tracks for Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018).

Lanois has received multiple Grammy Awards and Juno Awards, and was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada.
