Biography
Daniel Mainwaring was an American novelist and screenwriter. He also published under the pen name Geoffrey Homes. He began his professional career as a journalist for the San Francisco Chronicle and wrote a series of mystery novels before moving into film publicity work.
Mainwaring adapted his own novel Build My Gallows High (1946) as the screenplay for Out of the Past (1947). He subsequently wrote screenplays under both names, including credits on The Big Steal (1949), The Tall Target (1951), The Hitch-Hiker (1953), The Phenix City Story (1955) and Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956). He died in Los Angeles in 1977.
