Biography
Daniel Pennac (real name Daniel Pennacchioni) is a French writer born on 1 December 1944 in Casablanca, Morocco. He is known for his novels, including the Malaussène series, and children's books such as L'œil du loup (1984). Pennac wrote the screenplay for the animated film Ernest & Celestine (2012), based on books by Gabrielle Vincent.
After studying in Nice, he worked as a teacher before publishing fiction from the early 1980s. His 2007 essay Chagrin d'école won the Prix Renaudot. He is also credited with the novel on which The Scapegoat (2013) is based.
