Biography
Daniel Richter (born 15 June 1939) is an American mime, actor and choreographer. He is best known for playing Moonwatcher, the leader of a tribe of ape-men, and for choreographing the "Dawn of Man" sequence in Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968). At the time of his casting he was working as a mime in London.
After the film Richter appeared in The Revolutionary (1970). He later worked with John Lennon and Yoko Ono, appearing in their 1972 video for Imagine. He published the memoir Moonwatcher's Memoir: A Diary of 2001: A Space Odyssey in 2002 and a second memoir, The Dream Is Over, in 2012. Richter is the son of cartoonist Mischa Richter and an experienced mountaineer who has climbed more than 500 peaks in North America.
