Biography
Daniela Ciancio is an Italian costume designer. Born in Naples on 5 March 1965, she graduated from high school in 1983 and studied stage design at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli, earning a diploma in scenography. In 1986 she began collaborating with the Teatro di San Carlo and the Nuovo Teatro Nuovo di Napoli. She received a diploma from the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome in 1994, along with a study award from Piero Tosi.
Her career spans cinema, theatre, opera and television. She has designed costumes for Paolo Sorrentino’s Il Divo (2008) and The Great Beauty (2013), Michael Winterbottom’s The Face of an Angel (2014) and Antonietta De Lillo’s Il resto di niente (2004). She served as costume supervisor on Mission: Impossible III (2006). Ciancio won the David di Donatello for Best Costumes for Il resto di niente in 2005 and for The Great Beauty in 2014. She has taught costume design since 2004 and, from 2024, has directed the sartoria at the Teatro di San Carlo.
