Biography
Danny Rubin is an American screenwriter and playwright. He wrote the original story and co-wrote the screenplay with Harold Ramis for the 1993 comedy film Groundhog Day. The pair received a BAFTA Award for Best Screenplay.
Rubin was born in 1957 in San Francisco, California. He earned a B.A. in biology from Brown University and an M.A. in radio, television and film from Northwestern University. His other screen credits include Hear No Evil (1993) and S.F.W. (1994). He has also written a book, How to Write "Groundhog Day" (2012).
Rubin has taught screenwriting at several institutions, including as Briggs-Copeland Lecturer at Harvard University. He contributed to the stage musical adaptation of Groundhog Day, which premiered in 2016 and won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical.
