Biography
Daphne Dare (1929–2000) was a British costume designer who worked across theatre, television and film. Born in Yeovil, Somerset, she trained and began designing at the Bristol Old Vic before joining BBC Television, where she created costumes and monsters for the first two years of Doctor Who (1963).
Dare maintained a long association with director Ken Loach, designing costumes for his films Kes (1969), Family Life (1971), Hidden Agenda (1990), Land and Freedom (1995) and Carla's Song (1996). She also held senior design roles at the Northcott Theatre in Exeter and, from 1975, as head of design at the Stratford Festival in Ontario, where she collaborated with Robin Phillips on numerous productions.
