Biography
David Bennett Carren is an American screenwriter, producer and occasional director. He began his career in the late 1970s and has contributed to more than 200 film and television projects.
He is best known for his work on Star Trek: The Next Generation, for which he co-wrote the fourth-season episode 'Future Imperfect' (1990) with J. Larry Carroll and served as story editor on 18 further episodes that season. He has also written episodes of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (1979), The Twilight Zone (1985), Murder, She Wrote (1994), Walker, Texas Ranger (1997), Diagnosis: Murder (1997–99) and Stargate SG-1 (1997), frequently in collaboration with Carroll. Carren received a Writers Guild of America nomination for his work on the daytime serial Capitol (1982).
He holds a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Texas at Austin and an MFA from Spalding University. Carren is a tenured professor of screenwriting at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
