Biography
David Bezmozgis is a Latvian-born Canadian writer and filmmaker. Born in Riga in 1973, he immigrated to Toronto with his family at the age of six. He graduated with a BA in English literature from McGill University and received an MFA from the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts.
He is the author of the short story collection Natasha and Other Stories (2004) and the novels The Free World (2011) and The Betrayers (2014). His screenwriting credits include the feature films Victoria Day (2009) and Natasha (2015), which he also directed, and the animated film Charlotte (2021). He served as a writer and producer on the fifth season of the television series Orphan Black (2017).
Bezmozgis is head of Humber College's School for Writers.
