Biography

David Bischoff (1951–2018) was an American science fiction and television writer. He wrote two episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation: 'Tin Man' (1990, co-written with Dennis Putman Bailey) and 'First Contact' (1991, co-written with others), as well as the tie-in novel Grounded (1993).

Bischoff began writing in the early 1970s while studying at the University of Maryland. He published more than 80 books, including novelisations of films and series such as Aliens, Gremlins 2: The New Batch and WarGames. His 1978 short story 'Tin Woodman', co-written with Dennis R. Bailey and nominated for a Nebula Award, was the basis for the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode 'Tin Man'.

He also wrote for other television series including Dinosaucers and Space Precinct, and taught creative writing at Seton Hill University.
