Biography
David Coulson is a New Zealand film editor. He studied moving image at the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts and began working as an editing assistant at TV One in 1977 before going freelance.
Coulson has edited numerous features, including several directed by Niki Caro: Whale Rider (2002), North Country (2005), The Vintner's Luck (2009), McFarland, USA (2015) and The Zookeeper's Wife (2017). His other credits include Mulan (2020) and The Mother (2023). He has also worked extensively in commercials and on short films and television.
Coulson has won multiple New Zealand Film and Television Awards for editing, including for Illustrious Energy (1988), The Footstep Man (1993) and Broken English (1996), as well as an Asia-Pacific Film Festival award in 1996.
