Biography

David Hutcheson (14 June 1905 – 18 February 1976) was a British character actor. Born in Craigmore, Isle of Bute, Scotland, he made his film debut in Fast and Loose (1930) and appeared in his only lead role in Romance in Rhythm (1934). He specialised in comic and military parts in numerous British films and continued working in cinema and television into the 1970s.

His credits include The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (1943) as Hoppy, The Way Ahead (1944), Vice Versa (1948), The Evil of Frankenstein (1964), The Magic Christian (1969), The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971) as Dr. Hedgepath, and The National Health (1973). On stage he frequently played Colonel Pickering in productions of My Fair Lady during the 1960s. In 1949 he married Mary, Countess of Warwick.
