Biography
David Lang is an American composer. Born in Los Angeles in 1957, he studied at Stanford University, the University of Iowa and Yale University, where he later became a professor of composition.
Lang co-founded the music collective Bang on a Can in 1987. He received the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2008 for his choral work The Little Match Girl Passion. His film work includes the score and the song 'Simple Song #3' for Paolo Sorrentino’s Youth (2015), for which he received an Academy Award nomination, as well as the score for Wildlife (2018). He previously contributed music to Sorrentino’s The Great Beauty (2013) and arranged music for the Kronos Quartet in Requiem for a Dream (2000).
