Biography
David Lindsay-Abaire is an American playwright, lyricist and screenwriter. He studied theatre at Sarah Lawrence College and completed the Lila Acheson Wallace American Playwrights Program at the Juilliard School.
He is best known for his play Rabbit Hole, which premiered on Broadway in 2006 and won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2007; he wrote the screenplay for the 2010 film adaptation directed by John Cameron Mitchell. His musical Kimberly Akimbo, with music by Jeanine Tesori, won the Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical and the Tony Award for Best Original Score in 2023. Other screen credits include the screenplays for Rise of the Guardians (2012), Oz the Great and Powerful (2013) and The Family Fang (2016).
He has also written the book and lyrics for Shrek the Musical (2008) and serves as co-director of the playwriting programme at the Juilliard School.
