Biography
David Lyon was a British stage, television and film actor. Born in Sierra Leone in 1941 to a diamond merchant, he spent much of his childhood there before being educated in Scotland. After early jobs in insurance and sales, he trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama as a mature student and began paid acting work in 1975 at the Manchester Library Theatre.
From 1976 he performed regularly for two decades with the Royal Shakespeare Company, appearing in numerous Shakespeare productions and modern plays. On television he was known for roles including Marcus Hardman in Agatha Christie's Poirot (1989), Alan Thorpe in Midsomer Murders (1997) and Henry Collingridge in House of Cards (1990). He also appeared in Greenfingers (2001) as the Home Secretary. Lyon died in Brighton in 2013.
