Biography
David Richards was a British television director. Born in 1948 in Hollinwood, Oldham, Greater Manchester, he began his career at Granada Television and worked as a researcher before directing documentaries and current affairs programmes. He later specialised in drama, directing episodes of series including Coronation Street, The Bill and Emmerdale.
Richards directed episodes of Foyle's War (2010), Case Histories (2013), Vera (2014), DCI Banks (2015) and eight episodes of Silent Witness (2013–2017). Earlier credits include the miniseries Reckless (1997), This Is Personal: The Hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper (2000) and Conviction (2004). He received BAFTA nominations and won the Best Director award at the New York Film and TV Festival for This Is Personal.
He was married to Judith Hackett and co-founded the production company AKA Pictures with her and screenwriter Paul Abbott. Richards died on 9 January 2017 in Islington, London.
