Biography
Deirdre English is an American journalist and editor. She served as editor-in-chief of Mother Jones magazine from 1981 to 1986 and has contributed to publications including The Nation and The New York Times Book Review. She co-authored the book For Her Own Good: Two Centuries of the Experts' Advice to Women with Barbara Ehrenreich.
English appeared as herself in the 1994 documentary film Crumb, offering commentary on the work of cartoonist Robert Crumb. She has also taught journalism and American studies at institutions including the University of California, Berkeley.
