Biography
Derek Granger was a British television and film producer and screenwriter. Born in Bramhall, Cheshire, he worked as a journalist and drama critic for the Financial Times before joining Granada Television in 1958 as a researcher, later becoming head of plays.
At Granada he produced the anthology series Country Matters (1972–73) and the miniseries Brideshead Revisited (1981), an adaptation of Evelyn Waugh’s novel that took three years to complete and won seven BAFTAs. After leaving the company in 1982 he produced the literary adaptations A Handful of Dust (1988) and Where Angels Fear to Tread (1991), both directed by Charles Sturridge. He also produced early episodes of Coronation Street and episodes of World in Action.
Granger died in London on 29 November 2022, aged 101.
