Biography
Deric Washburn is an American screenwriter. Born on 2 June 1937 in Buffalo, New York, he graduated from Harvard College in 1959. He began his career as a playwright, writing the off-Broadway plays Ginger Anne and The Love Nest.
Washburn is best known for co-writing the story and writing the screenplay for The Deer Hunter (1978) with Michael Cimino. He had previously collaborated with Cimino on the screenplay for Silent Running (1972). His other credits include the screenplays for The Border (1982) and Extreme Prejudice (1987). He received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay for The Deer Hunter.
