Biography
Dervla Kirwan is an Irish actress. She was born on 24 October 1971 in Churchtown, Dublin. She began her career as a teenager with roles in the BBC series Troubles (1988) and stage productions including Billy Roche's Wexford Trilogy.
Kirwan is known for her television roles as Phoebe Bamford in Goodnight Sweetheart (1993–1996) and Assumpta Fitzgerald in Ballykissangel (1996–1998), for which she received a National Television Award. Other credits include Miss Hartigan in the Doctor Who Christmas special The Next Doctor (2008), Maura in Ondine (2009), and Agnes Guinness in House of Guinness (2025). She has won two IFTA Awards, for Ondine and the series Smother (2021–2023).
She is married to actor Rupert Penry-Jones.
