Biography
Devonté Hynes (born David Joseph Michael Hynes, 23 December 1985) is an English composer, singer, songwriter and record producer. He is also known professionally as Blood Orange and formerly as Lightspeed Champion. Born in Ilford, Essex, he began his career in the mid-2000s as a member of the band Test Icicles, before releasing solo work under his other aliases.
As a film and television composer, Hynes has scored Palo Alto (2014), Queen & Slim (2019), We Are Who We Are (2020), Passing (2021), Mainstream (2021), Master Gardener (2023) and Challengers (2024), among others. He composed the score for the 2026 film The Invite.
Hynes has also worked in classical music, collaborating with orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra and receiving a Grammy nomination for his work with Third Coast Percussion.
