Biography
Diane Varsi was an American film actress. She made her screen debut as Allison MacKenzie in the 1957 melodrama Peyton Place, for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She shared the Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer – Actress the following year.
Varsi appeared in supporting roles in films including Compulsion (1959) and the cult film Wild in the Streets (1968). She left Hollywood in the late 1950s to pursue other interests, studying poetry at Bennington College in Vermont, before returning to acting in the mid-1960s. Her later credits include Bloody Mama (1970), Johnny Got His Gun (1971) and I Never Promised You a Rose Garden (1977). She died in 1992.
