Biography
Dierdre Wolownick is an American writer, former foreign-language professor and orchestra conductor who has appeared as herself in documentaries. She features in the 2018 film Free Solo, discussing her son Alex Honnold's climbing.
Wolownick began rock climbing in her late fifties and became the oldest woman to ascend El Capitan in Yosemite at age 66 in 2017, repeating the feat on her 70th birthday in 2021. She has written a memoir, The Sharp End of Life: A Mother's Story, and is the mother of climbers Alex Honnold and Stasia Honnold.
