Biography

Dody Goodman (also credited as Dodie Goodman) was an American character actress. Born Dolores Goodman in Columbus, Ohio, she began her career as a dancer on Broadway in the 1940s before moving into comedy and acting roles on stage, television and film.

She gained prominence as a frequent guest on The Tonight Show with Jack Paar in the 1950s and played the mother of the title character in the series Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman (1976–77). Her film roles include Blanche Hodel in Grease (1978) and Grease 2 (1982), and Mrs. Stimler in Splash (1984). She also provided the voice of Miss Miller in the animated series Alvin and the Chipmunks and the film The Chipmunk Adventure (1987), and had a recurring role as Aunt Sophia in Diff'rent Strokes.

Goodman received a Drama Desk Award nomination for her stage work in a 1984 revival of Ah, Wilderness!. She died in Englewood, New Jersey, in 2008.
