Biography
Domenico Savino (1882–1973) was an Italian-born composer, conductor and arranger who became a naturalised American citizen. He trained at the Regio Conservatorio di musica in Naples, studying composition, piano and conducting, before emigrating to the United States in 1910.
Savino worked extensively in film music during the silent and early sound eras, providing original scores and stock music. He received a composer credit on the part-talkie The Patriot (1928), directed by Ernst Lubitsch, and on Who Is Happier Than I? (1938). Much of his output appeared under the pseudonym D. Onivas; he also composed over 2,500 published works, many semi-classical pieces used in films and recordings.
