Biography
Don Porter (born Donald Cecil Porter) was an American stage, film and television actor. He was born on 24 September 1912 in Miami, Oklahoma, and died on 11 February 1997 in Beverly Hills, California.
Porter began acting on radio and stage in the 1930s. He appeared in more than 200 plays, with Broadway credits including Any Wednesday (1964), Plaza Suite (1968) and The Front Page (1969). His film roles included R. G. Connolly in The Racket (1951), a part in The Candidate (1972) and an uncredited appearance in Desk Set (1957).
On television he played Peter Sands in the sitcom Private Secretary (1950s) and Russell Lawrence, the father of the title character, in Gidget (1965). He made guest appearances in series including The Six Million Dollar Man, Hawaii Five-O, Three's Company and Matlock.
