Biography
Don Sharp was an Australian-born film and television director. Born in Hobart, Tasmania, he began his career as an actor in Australia before moving to Britain after the Second World War, where he worked as an actor and screenwriter before turning to directing in the mid-1950s.
He directed children's films for the Children's Film Foundation and later became known for his work with Hammer Films in the 1960s, including The Kiss of the Vampire (1963), The Devil-Ship Pirates (1964) and Rasputin the Mad Monk (1966). He also directed episodes of the television series The Avengers and films such as The Face of Fu Manchu (1965) and The Thirty-Nine Steps (1978).
Sharp continued directing into the 1980s, including television miniseries, and died in 2011.
