Biography

Donnie Dunagan is an American former child actor. Born in San Antonio, Texas, he moved with his family to Memphis, Tennessee, as a young child. At the age of three and a half he won a talent contest, which led to a move to Hollywood and a series of film roles beginning in 1938.

His credits include Mother Carey's Chickens (1938), Son of Frankenstein (1939) as Peter von Frankenstein, Tower of London (1939) as the Baby Prince, and the voice of Young Bambi (uncredited) in Bambi (1942). He retired from acting after the latter film.

In 1952 Dunagan enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served until 1977, rising to the rank of major. He became the youngest drill instructor in the Corps' history, served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and received a Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts.
