Biography
Dorothée Berryman is a Canadian actress and jazz singer from Quebec. Born on 28 April 1948 in Neufchâtel (now part of Québec City), she studied at Université Laval and began performing on stage while a student. She started her professional career in radio at CKCV in Québec and later at Radio-Canada, moving into musical theatre and television from 1971.
Berryman first appeared in films in the mid-1970s. She played Louise in Denys Arcand's The Decline of the American Empire (1986) and reprised the role in The Barbarian Invasions (2003). Other film credits include The Red Violin (1998) and The Comeback (2010), for which she won a Jutra Award for Best Supporting Actress. She has also released jazz albums and hosted jazz programmes on radio. She is fluently bilingual and has appeared in English-language productions.
