Biography
Dorothy Lamour was an American actress and singer. Born Mary Leta Dorothy Slaton on 10 December 1914 in New Orleans, Louisiana, she died on 22 September 1996 in Los Angeles, California. She began her career as a singer after winning the 1931 Miss New Orleans contest, performing in nightclubs and on radio before moving to Hollywood.
She made her film debut in The Jungle Princess (1936) and appeared in the series of Road to... comedies with Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, beginning with Road to Singapore (1940). Other credits include The Greatest Show on Earth (1952) as Phyllis, Donovan's Reef (1963) as Miss Lafleur, and guest roles in television series such as Murder, She Wrote and The Love Boat. She also toured in stage productions and published an autobiography in 1980.
