Biography

Duane Chase (also credited as Duane Dudley Chase) is an American former actor, geologist and software engineer. He was born on 12 December 1950 in Los Angeles, California. He is best known for playing Kurt von Trapp in the film The Sound of Music (1965).

Chase began acting in commercials at the age of 11 and also did some modelling work. He appeared in a small uncredited role in Follow Me, Boys! (1966) and as Danny Mathews in one episode of the television series The Big Valley (1966). He left acting after high school and worked for a time with the United States Forest Service fighting fires.

Chase earned a B.S. in geology from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1976 and an M.S. in geology from the University of Alabama. He later worked as a computer software analyst and designer for oil and mining companies. He is married to Petra Maria, a registered nurse, and lives in Washington State.
