Biography
Duncan Sarkies is a New Zealand screenwriter, playwright, novelist and stand-up comic. He grew up in Dunedin and is the brother of film director and screenwriter Robert Sarkies.
He co-wrote the screenplay for the film Scarfies (1999) with his brother. Sarkies wrote two episodes of the television series Flight of the Conchords (2007–2009). He has also contributed to the series What We Do in the Shadows (2019). His debut novel Two Little Boys was published in 2008 and adapted into a film in 2012; his other novels include Demolition of the Century (2013).
Sarkies has written several plays and won awards including the Chapman Tripp Theatre Award for Best New Zealand Play for Saving Grace (1995) and the Montana New Zealand Best First Book Award for his short-story collection Stray Thoughts and Nose Bleeds (2000).
