Biography
Eartha Kitt was an American singer and actress. She began her career in the 1940s as a dancer with the Katherine Dunham troupe before establishing herself as a nightclub performer in Paris. Orson Welles cast her in his stage production of Faust in 1950.
Kitt achieved success with recordings including the 1953 hit "Santa Baby". She appeared in films such as Anna Lucasta (1959) and played Catwoman in the third season of the television series Batman (1966). Later roles included Madame Zeroni in Holes (2003). She voiced Yzma in the animated film The Emperor's New Groove (2000) and the related television series The Emperor's New School (2006–2008).
Kitt was born on 17 January 1927 in North, South Carolina, and died on 25 December 2008 in Weston, Connecticut.
