Biography
Ed Cortês is a Brazilian composer and musician. Born in São Paulo on 2 July 1965, he is the son of composer and conductor Edmundo Villani-Côrtes. He began as a clarinettist in classical orchestras before moving into jazz as a saxophonist and clarinettist. He studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Cortês has composed for more than fifty feature films. He co-composed the score for City of God (2002) with Antônio Pinto and worked on Behind the Sun (2001). In 1998 he co-founded the audio production company Supersonica with Pinto; he later founded Tentaculo. His other credits include Lord of War (2005) as orchestrator and scores for Beyond the Universe (2022) and Burning Betrayal (2023).
