Biography
Eddie Egan was an American actor and former New York City Police Department detective. Born Edward Walter Egan on 3 January 1930 in New York City, he joined the NYPD in 1955 and became known for a major 1962 heroin seizure that formed the basis of the book and 1971 film The French Connection.
After retiring from the police in 1971, Egan worked as a technical advisor on the film and played the role of Captain Walt Simonson. He appeared in small parts in more than twenty films and television series, often as law-enforcement figures, including Prime Cut (1972) and episodes of Mannix and T. J. Hooker. Egan died on 4 November 1995 in Miami, Florida.
