Biography
Edith Campion was a New Zealand actor and writer. Born Beverley Georgette Hannah in Wellington in 1923, she trained at the Old Vic Theatre School in London after studying at Victoria University of Wellington. With her husband Richard Campion she co-founded the New Zealand Players, the country's first professional theatre company, in 1953; she performed many leading roles and was awarded the MBE for her services to theatre.
Campion appeared in two films late in her career: The Audition (1989) and, as Miss Lindsay, in her daughter Jane Campion's An Angel at My Table (1990). Jane's later film The Piano (1993) was dedicated to her. She died in Ōtaki in 2007.
