Biography
Edna Purviance was an American actress of the silent film era. She worked as a stenographer in San Francisco before being cast by Charlie Chaplin in 1915.
She appeared as his leading lady in more than thirty films between 1915 and 1923, including The Immigrant (1917), Easy Street (1917), Shoulder Arms (1918), The Kid (1921), Pay Day (1922) and A Woman of Paris: A Drama of Fate (1923).
Her final screen appearances were uncredited roles in Chaplin's Monsieur Verdoux (1947) and Limelight (1952). She was married to John Squire from 1938 until his death in 1945.
