Biography

Edwin Justus Mayer was an American screenwriter and playwright. He was born in New York on 8 November 1896 and died there on 11 September 1960.

Mayer wrote the screenplay for Ernst Lubitsch's To Be or Not to Be (1942). He also worked on the screenplays for A Royal Scandal (1945), Merrily We Go to Hell (1932) and Midnight (1939).

He began his career as a journalist and wrote several plays that reached Broadway, including The Firebrand (1924). He contributed to numerous films from the late 1920s to the 1950s.
