Biography
Eitarō Shindō (also credited as Eitaro Shindo) was a Japanese film actor. Born in Fukuoka, Japan, he began as a stage actor before entering the film industry in the mid-1920s. He appeared in more than 300 films between the 1930s and 1970s.
Shindō is most closely associated with director Kenji Mizoguchi, appearing in twelve of his films. Notable roles include Sanshō dayû in Sansho the Bailiff (1954), Ishun in Chikamatsu Monogatari (1954), Kurazō Taya in Street of Shame (1956), and parts in Drunken Angel (1948), The Life of Oharu (1952), Sisters of the Gion (1936) and A Geisha (1953). He also worked in period dramas for Toei and later in television.
