Biography
Eliades Ochoa Bustamante is a Cuban guitarist, singer and songwriter. Born on 22 June 1946 in Songo La Maya, he began playing the guitar at the age of six. In 1978 he joined Cuarteto Patria as its leader, a role he has held while maintaining the group’s tradition of Cuban folk music.
Ochoa is best known internationally for his contributions to the Buena Vista Social Club album and the 1999 Wim Wenders documentary of the same name, in which he appears as Self. He has released numerous solo albums and collaborated with artists including Manu Dibango and Ry Cooder.
