Biography
Elizaveta Svilova (also credited as Yelizaveta Svilova) was a Russian film editor and director. Born Elizaveta Schnitt in Moscow on 5 September 1900, she began working as a film editor for Pathé at the age of fourteen and later edited features at Goskino.
She collaborated extensively with her husband Dziga Vertov as editor and assistant director on films including Man with a Movie Camera (1929), Enthusiasm (1930) and Three Songs of Lenin (1934). From the late 1930s she directed and edited over one hundred documentaries and newsreels, including wartime works such as For You at the Front (1942) and The Fall of Berlin (1945), the latter of which earned a Stalin Prize in 1946. She died in Moscow on 11 November 1975.
