Biography

Enzo Cannavale, also credited as Vincenzo Cannavale, was an Italian actor. Born in Castellammare di Stabia, Campania, he began his career in Neapolitan theatre in the late 1940s and appeared in more than 100 films from 1949 until his death.

He gained prominence in genre cinema, notably as Caputo alongside Bud Spencer in the Flatfoot series, including The Knock Out Cop (1973), Flatfoot in Hong Kong (1975), Flatfoot in Africa (1978) and Flatfoot in Egypt (1980). In 1988 he played Spaccafico in Giuseppe Tornatore’s Cinema Paradiso and Alfonso Caputo in Luciano De Crescenzo’s 32 dicembre, for which he received the Nastro d’Argento for Best Supporting Actor.

Cannavale continued working in film and television into the 2000s, including roles in The Comics (1990) and My Friends Act III (1985).
