Biography
Erni Mangold was an Austrian actress and stage director. Born Erna Goldmann on 26 January 1927 in Großweikersdorf, she trained at Helmut Kraus's Drama School and began her career in 1946 at Vienna's Theater in der Josefstadt, where she remained until 1956. She later appeared at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg under Gustaf Gründgens and at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus.
Mangold performed in more than 140 film and television productions over seven decades. Her international role was the palm reader in Richard Linklater's Before Sunrise (1995). Other credits include Hanussen (1955), North Face (2008), A Woman in Berlin (2008), 3096 Days (2013) and episodes of Inspector Rex and Scene of the Crime. She was appointed Kammerschauspielerin and taught at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna from 1984 to 1995. She retired from the stage in 2017 and died in Vienna on 5 September 2026.
