Biography

Erol Afşin is a Turkish actor who works primarily in German-language productions. Born in Adana, Turkey, in 1989, he moved to Germany at the age of 18. His first stage appearance was in the 2010/11 season at Ballhaus Naunynstraße in Nurkan Erpulat’s Verrücktes Blut, which later toured and won the 2011 Theatre Today award for best German-language play. He trained at the Folkwang University of the Arts from 2011 and studied briefly at the State Conservatory in Istanbul in 2013/14.

Afşin’s screen debut came in the 2011 Australian short The Palace. He played Osman in the 2015 film Mustang, which premiered at Cannes and received an Academy Award nomination for best foreign language film. Other notable roles include Utku in the fifth season of Homeland (2015), appearances in Saf (2018) and Girls of the Sun (2018), and the lead in the 2021 series Wir. In 2023 he made his feature directorial debut with Es brennt, which he also wrote and produced; the film premiered at Filmfest München.
