Biography
Esmeralda Ruspoli was an Italian actress and member of the Roman nobility. Born in Rome on 24 June 1928, she trained at the Accademia Nazionale di Arte Drammatica Silvio D'Amico after abandoning nursing studies. She appeared in films from the early 1960s onwards, including a supporting role as Patrizia in Michelangelo Antonioni's L'Avventura (1960).
Ruspoli is also known for playing Lady Montague in Franco Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet (1968) and for other credits such as Without Apparent Motive (1971) and Footprints on the Moon (1975). She was married to actor Giancarlo Sbragia and had three children, one of whom, Mattia Sbragia, also became an actor. She died on 1 September 1988 in Panarea, Italy.
