Biography
Estelle Evans (née Rolle) was a Bahamian-American actress. Born on 1 October 1906 in the Bahamas, she moved to the United States with her family and later studied drama at Hunter College and the American Negro Theater in New York. She worked as a teacher before pursuing acting.
Evans appeared in films including The Quiet One (1948), To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) as Calpurnia, and The Learning Tree (1969), for which she received the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture. She also had roles in television series such as The Jeffersons (1975) and Good Times (1975), and was the sister of actresses Esther Rolle and Rosanna Carter. She died on 20 July 1985 in New York City.
